Getting Settled in Penang Malaysia

And…we find ourselves getting settled in Penang Malaysia.

We are spending some time now in Malaysia and are loving every minute. Why Penang?

We chose Penang because there are tons of Chinese people living here and they speak Mandarin in the streets. We like keeping the kids up on their Mandarin while exploring and why not do it in Penang.

The weather is beautiful and the climate is perfect. The price has been a little more expensive than we thought but still way cheaper than we would pay for something similar in the states.

We arrived late at night and rented a hotel room at the Copthorne hotel. I will admit the rooms were mediocre and there was no internet in the hotel room. You had to go down to the restaurant to use the free wifi. However once you got down there it was really good and there is a play area for the kids so it actually worked out good for everyone.

On our second night of course there had to be a Tsunami warning. Yup you guessed it a Tsunami. The hotel wasn’t good about relaying information so we stayed glued to the laptop seeing what was going on. Luckily nothing happened but we were both scared and of course the kids can always tell. Oh geez, getting settled in Penang, Malaysia might be harder than we thought.

On our second day there we also looked at six short-term apartments with two different agents. No time to spare! We found Jason from Pen Properties to be very helpful and he set us up in a great apartment in Miami Green.

We loved it! We paid a little more to be able to go month to month, but we like the flexibility and don’t mind paying a little more if necessary.

I reached out to Tracy with Our Travel Lifestyle after reading about how they live in Penang with two children almost the same age. She replied with tons of information and even picked us up for a little grocery shopping the DAY after she got back from a trip. It was wonderful to meet such an amazing family and connect with them on living abroad.

We settled into our apartment wonderfully! Here is where we are staying! If you are looking for rental apartments in Penang this is another great article!

You are being too nice! The apartment is about 1000 sqft but the layout is actually really nice, we both have said if we were going to build a house we would like it to be very similar. Miss you lots and give everyone lots of kisses and hugs!!
